New Project. Camper trailer set up. Track Trailer Desert Eagle. Back to the future.

New Project.

1996 Track Trailer Desert Eagle.

After a few years of being on the dark side (caravan) I've decided to go back to a camper trailer to reach the more inaccessible places. Not that I don't appreciate the caravan, but after 2000 km's recently on corrugated dirt road, it didn't really like the dust and rocks.

So I've picked up a 1996 Track Trailer Desert Eagle for a bargain.
It's in pretty good condition for its age and doesn't appear to have been abused.

These are the predecessors to the Track Trailer T-Van.  Similar chassis  with the military grade MC2 independent suspension.

We intended to get it set up with all of our canvas products. As it doesn't have a kitchen, we will be using our Cutlery Rolls, Canvas kitchen bags etc to get it set up for comfortable camping anywhere we choose to venture.

I've got heaps to do, but I think we'll take it for a test run soon, just to see what needs doing.
Just check all of the bearings, brakes etc and then we're off.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Corner Country NSW. Why did we go?

Corner Country NSW

Why?

You know, I've traveled to a lot of outback Australia, and hope to see more.
I get asked quite frequently, why?
I don't really know. I say things like, 'big skies' and 'red dirt', but I know I'm not really convincing my inquisitive friend.
I end up saying, 'you just have to go and see for yourself'. I know they probably won't, so it's a bit of a redundant answer.

We traveled to Cameron Corner. The meeting point of New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.
Seven days, around 3000 kms, of which almost 2000 kms were on gravel roads. To say they were 'roads' is being very generous. Mostly they were tracks covered in nasty rocks and big holes full of bulldust, the red talcum powder that gets into every part of you vehicle.

But I digress.

Why did we go?
I think because we maybe didn't think we could make it. I know this sounds a bit lame, but even though we had modern, well equipped 4wds, on relatively well traveled tracks, sometimes we saw no other vehicles for hundreds of kilometres.  I think it's that feeling that this could go bad, quickly, sharpens your senses and your sense of adventure.

I think it also cleanses your mind of modern clutter. Thousands of kilometres of red dirt, where all you have to do is miss the next big, ugly rock on the track, focuses the mind.
Mindfulness.
I think that is why we travel out to remote places. Mindfulness.

It's not so much the destination, but the journey.

Tent Peg Bags. Why are they made of such light weight material?

Tent Peg Bags.

We have an Oztent RV4 30 second tent in our camping kit.
Great design, and really does go up in 30 seconds!

BUT.

The tent peg bags supplied are made of a light weight synthetic material and the steel pegs have broken their way through the bottom of the bag.
Our peg bag. Tent pegs are free for the last time!

El Cheapo peg bag supplied. Pegs trying to escape!

Now, as most people who have camped will know, these steel tent pegs can be a real pain when they escape into your storage area. They seem to get stuck/tangled/impaled in anything they can.

SO.

We have made up a super strong, Australian Canvas tent peg bag.
Made from Genuine Australian Made Army tent canvas.
Designed to take 250mm long steel tent pegs.

Velcro opening PLUS another row of Velcro to double secure these rogue tent pegs!.
Double stitched in the base to prevent the pegs escaping as well.

Length:     390mm
                      Length:     350mm (folded flap)
Width:      180mm

Looks like a Barra with a mouthful of tent pegs!

First velcro closure. Most pegs can't get past this barrier.

Second folded closure. There will be NO escape!

Full load of steel pegs can't break through.

We use one for the tent pegs and the other to keep all of the ropes together.

These would also be great for storing any small item when camping.

Even the tent ropes can't escape!
Please contact for any custom length tent peg bags.

NOTE: PEGS/ROPES ARE NOT INCLUDED.
